The World Fellowship of National Bible Societies joins together,as the United Bible Societies (UBS),for consultation,mutual support and action in their common task;
- Achiving The Widest possible ,Effective and Meaningful distribution of the Holy Scriptures.
- In languages and media which meet the needs of people worldwide.
- In translation that is faithful to the scripture texts in their original. languages which communicate the bibilical message.
- At prices people can afford.
- Helping people interact with the Word of God
TRANSLATION
Bible Society of Uganda is in charge of translating the Holy scriptures into the various local languages of Uganda. Currently the Bible has been translated into 10 languages, and the New Testament has been translated into 18 languages. Soon the Bible will be available in the Ngakarimojong and Lusoga languages while a New Testament in Dhopadhola, Lumasaaba, Lusamia-Lugwe and Kumam are being worked on. The translation projects are jointly done in consultation and cooperation with the churches. For every translation project, there are translators, review committees and a Translation Consultant to ensure faithfulness to the original texts and clarity in the receptor language. Translation and reviewing processes take a long time and cost large sums of money.
PRODUCTION
Our Strategic direction for the years 2009 to 2013 in the area of distribution is to ensure that the customers of the Bible Society of Uganda are having their scripture needs met at all times within their localities at an affordable price. We therefore set our attention on variety, wider audience coverage price affordability.
DISTRIBUTION
In an attempt to reach the widest audiences, we distribute the scriptures through the following channels: Bible Society Bookshops, Distribution Vans, Volunteers, Church Bookstalls and procurements, commercial Bookshops and Stationery shops. In addition some Mission Agencies help us in distribution programme. A commission or discount is given to distributors who are not full time employees of the Bible Society.
BIBLE ENGAGEMENT
To help people engage with scripture,we design and implement various programs such as audio Scrptures and New Reader Portions for people who are not conversant with reading and Bible Study Portions / selections to address specific sitation like HIV/AIDS pademic and other contemporary issues like corruption ,good gorvanance and peace.By their nature these programs and products are offered free of charge to people who need them.
FUNDRAISING:
We depend on gifts and donations from members and friends of the Bible Society who desire to further the Bible Cause to fund our activities.
Some of the ways in which funds are raised are:-
a) Donations:
We receive general and designated donations from people of all walks of life including school children, individuals and companies. These donations can be on a regular or one- time basis.You could join a special group of donors in Bible month club and also be part of our annual Bible fellowship luncheon.
b) United Bible Societies(UBS):
Ever since Bible Society of Uganda started work, a very large fraction of the funds have been coming from the global fellowship. Due to the new doors opening in Europe plus other factors, this contribution is on a steep decline. Time has come for us to shoulder the burden of raising funds locally to meet the scripture and operational needs.
c) Church Contributions :
Every year during the Bible Week, churches are requested to give free will offerings to the work of the Bible Society. Collections on the Bible Sabbath/Sunday are supposed to be sent to Bible House for the Bible ministry/Apostolate.Look out for the Bible Sabbath/Sunday in your local church and give liberally towards the Bible Society work.
d) Membership:
People who agree to register as members and make annual subscriptions to the Bible society,form the core of both the funding and governance of the Bible society.We appeal to you to be part of this team by registering as a member in the appropriate category below:
- Full Member (Couple) 20,000/= p.a
- Full Member (Single) 15,000/= p.a
- Associate Member 5,000/= p.a
- Student Member 1,000/= p.a
- Group/Congregation 30,000/= p.a
- Company Membership 200,000/= p.a
- Bible A month club Member
Life members are urged to make a regular contribution to fulfil their pledge of supporting this work throughout their lifetime.
e) Rental Facilities:
We have facilities to provide you with a Christian environment for your special occasions and parties.These facilities include a 300 seater shed,a 100 seater tent,a 50-seater boardroom and 200 chairs,all provided at a minimum cost.Facilities for your parties (Baptism,Wedding and Graduation)
